Description

The dovecote, dating from around 1880, is located in the farmyard of Abbey Bridge Farm. It is constructed from cast iron and wood. The structure features a cast iron fluted composite column with brackets that support a rectangular dovecote topped with a gabled roof. There are four tiers of entrance holes with landing edges, and the roof is tiled. The gable end and sides are adorned with fishscale tiles, and along the top of the dovecote, there is a row of projecting metal flowers. Until 1991, this dovecote was situated off Staines Lane in the garden of William Herring, an iron founder, who likely manufactured it. The dovecote was previously listed at Staines Lane but has since been dismantled, rebuilt, and relocated to Colonel's Lane.
