Description
The Church of Saint John the Baptist Lychgate is a Grade II* listed structure that was originally a church porch. It features a gabled tiled roof and plastered gables. The south wall is made of brick and has an arched opening, while the lychgate includes timber framing set on a low brick wall. Notable architectural elements include a moulded tie beam, brackets, and quatrefoil tracery in the side openings. The carved pole plate rests on corbel brackets, and the sides are open with two moulded mullions. Each opening has two vertical iron bars with a central twist. The roof is supported by collared rafters. There is a tablet commemorating that John Wesley preached here in 1744, and a seat is located on the east side only.
