Description
Marelands is a house dating back to the 16th century, with significant extensions added in the 18th and 20th centuries, and a rear addition from the 19th century. The house is timber-framed, set on a rendered plinth, and filled in with brick of various dates, including red, brown and blue headers. The roofs are hipped and covered in plain tiles. The original, oldest section consists of four framed bays, clustered around the centre. Diagonal bracing from the 18th century is visible on the left side. A substantial ribbed stack with corbelling is located to the right of the centre of the front, while another stack sits to the left of the centre. A single three-light window sits on the first floor in the centre, with a five-light square-pane window below it on the ground floor, both protected by drip hoards. A door is positioned to the right of the centre, sheltered by a shallow, brick porch with a pentice roof. The left return front is tile hung, featuring fishscale pattern tiles in some areas, with a square-pane window on the first floor and another on the ground floor, also under a drip board. A 19th-century wing extends to the rear, with a stack at one end and a weatherboarded pentice. A single through-eaves dormer is placed above this wing.
