Description
Dormers and Hope End is a stable and servants' quarters, now converted into two dwellings, built around 1873 by R Norman Shaw in the Vernacular Revival style. The building features English bond brickwork on the ground floor, while the first floor is hung with curved tiles and includes some timber framing on the gable end. It has a tiled roof with tall ribbed brick stacks and is one storey high with attics, featuring five windows.
Hope End has a gable end on the left side, which includes two triple casements and two double doors on the ground floor. To the left, there is a set-back wing with a penticed roof that has two dormers and a doorcase with a plank door, topped by an arch under a weatherhood supported by brackets. The Dormers section features one gabled dormer and one penticed dormer, along with casement windows, two buttresses, and a 20th-century glazed door with a flat weatherhood. The side elevation of Dormers showcases square framing, a moulded tie beam, bargeboards, and a six-light oriel window.
