Description
Gwynne House, also known as Ye Old Guild Cottage, is a building dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It stands two storeys high and is constructed of red brick. The façade features a symmetrical arrangement of sash windows, with three on the left, two in the centre, and three on the right. There is a band between the storeys.
On the ground floor to the left, there is a modern Tudor-style shop front that includes an 18th-century coved plaster fascia cornice. To the left of the centre, there is a large early 19th-century semi-circular bowed window, accompanied by a plain door and fanlight, all sheltered by a simple canopy. To the right of the centre, there is a wide segmental-headed sash window. The right side of the building features a central six-fielded panelled door with a fanlight that has glazing bars and a plain hood, flanked by sash windows on either side.
The roof is tall and hipped, covered with old tiles, and has five two-light casement dormers with flat tops. The building is finished with a paired modillioned wood eaves cornice and plain chimney stacks. Gwynne House forms part of a group with Nos 1 to 5 (odd) and Nos 126 to 134 (even) on High Street.
