Description
This barn, located approximately 15 meters south of Kelmscott Manor, dates from the late 17th century and has undergone later alterations. It is constructed of uncoursed limestone rubble featuring alternating angle quoins, and it has a stone slate roof that is hipped at the north end, with coped verges at the south end and a projecting range. The barn is L-shaped.
On the west side, there are 20th-century casement windows with wooden lintels, two to the left and one to the right of a roughly central plank door. There is also a plank door in the angle to the right, leading to the projecting range, which includes a two-light chamfered stone mullion window with a narrow round-headed opening above in the gable. Rectangular air vents are present in the gable end.
The east side features segmental-headed double doors to the left, a wide infilled entrance in the center, and a plank door to the right. Inside, the main range has a double-purlin roof supported by five bays with central collar and tie-beam trusses; one of these trusses has curved struts while the other has raking struts connecting the tie beam to the principal rafters. The remaining bay divisions are made of stone walls. The barn was converted for domestic use in the late 20th century, except for the north bay, which still retains its hayloft.
