Description
This is a pair of chest tombs dedicated to the Shingleton family, located in the churchyard of St. Mary's, approximately 4 meters west of the nave. The first tomb is for Joseph Shingleton, who died in 1777, and his wife Mary, who died in 1774. It is made of limestone ashlar and features a short, upright design with a chamfered base, a moulded cornice lid, and moulded panels. The south panel is adorned with a carved foliage scroll border. The second tomb is for Joseph Shingleton, who died in 1818, constructed from pink limestone and includes one white marble inscription panel. This tomb is also upright, with a moulded base and cornice lid, square pilasters with drapery drops in the recessed corners, and oval end panels.
