Description
The Stables at Gill Mill, built around the mid-19th century, are a single-storey stable building constructed with weatherboarded timber-frame on a red brick plinth, topped with a thatched hipped roof. The building has a small four-bay layout, with a smaller range at right angles at the rear, creating an L-shaped plan. The southeast front features three plank doors, while the lower weatherboarded timber-framed rear wing also has a thatched roof. Inside, the wall framing includes studs, straight braces, and wall-posts without jowls, and there is no mid-rail. The roof consists of four bays with tie-beam trusses, one tier of tenoned purlins, and intact common rafters with a ridgeboard. The right-hand bay is partitioned off with wide boards.
