Description
This is a park wall from the mid-18th century, constructed of coursed limestone rubble topped with ashlar coping. It is attached to a Palladian gateway and extends along the road to Heyford Bridge. Near Heyford Bridge, there is an 18th-century plank door with a Norfolk latch set in a chamfered stone architrave. The wall is followed by late 19th-century railings on a low wall leading to the bridge. Mid-19th-century gates and gatepiers are located approximately midway along the wall. This wall bounds the landscape gardens designed by William Kent between 1733 and 1740. Rousham Park, where this wall is located, is listed in the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission Register of Parks and Gardens at Grade I.
