Description

Priory Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid to late 17th century, with later additions and alterations. It is constructed of roughly coursed limestone rubble and has a concrete tile roof. The building has two storeys, possibly with raised eaves at the front, and an attic. On the front, there are chamfered mullion windows with dripstones flanking a central six-panel door, which is sheltered by a 20th-century open gabled timber porch. The first floor features three lights, while the ground floor has four lights. There are two late 19th-century gabled eaves dormers. The integral end stacks include one on the left with a moulded dripstone, paired and rebated shafts, and moulded capping, while the right stack has been rebuilt above a moulded dripstone. The left gable end displays a two-light mullion window on the first floor and a narrow rectangular window on the ground floor, both with dripstones. The rear of the house has a gabled staircase projection and a three-light mullion window with a dripstone on the ground floor to the right. Tie beam ends are visible below the eaves. Attached to the right is a low 19th-century range that has a boarded door to the left and two 19th-century casements to the right, all with wood lintels; the right window features a 20th-century gabled dormer that breaks the eaves directly above. There is also an integral end stack with a dripstone and a 19th-century yellow brick shaft. An equal-height range projects at right angles to the rear. The interior could not be inspected at the time of the resurvey in August 1987, but it is likely to be of interest. The farmhouse was formerly known as Tithe Farmhouse.
