Description
The First World War memorial to the Price brothers is located on the north side of the main road through Westwell village, next to the old sheepwash pond and approximately 110 meters north of the Manor House, where their sister, Mrs. Holland, lived. The area features several listed buildings, including the Manor House and Old Rectory, both designated as Grade II*, and the Church of St Mary, which is Grade I.
The memorial consists of a large limestone monolith that rises from a deep, two-stepped limestone base. The upper surfaces of the base steps are covered with slabs to create flat areas for placing floral tributes and wreaths.
A salvaged brass numeral from Ypres Cloth Hall is attached to the front of the monolith, facing the main road. This Gothic numeral is inscribed in the center with the dedication: "ERECTED BY/ STRETTA AIMEE HOLLAND/ IN MEMORY OF/ HER BROTHERS/ LT HAROLD S PRICE/ ROYAL FUSILIERS/ LT EDD JOHN PRICE/ RN." Above the numeral, there is an additional inscription that reads: "TO THE BRAVE/ WHO/ GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR ENGLAND/ IN/ THE GREAT WAR," and at the bottom, it states: "THIS BRASS NUMERAL/ FORMED PART OF THE CLOCK/ OF THE CLOTH HALL/ AT YPRES."
