Description

This chest tomb, located in the churchyard of St. Mary's, is dedicated to Thomas and Elizabeth Townsend and dates from around 1802. It is made of limestone ashlar and stands approximately 7 meters southeast of the south transept. The tomb features a moulded base and a cornice lid, with recessed corners that are adorned with square fluted pilasters. The south inscription panel displays delicate foliage carved in shallow relief, while the north panel is oval and features shallow carvings of cherub heads and scrolls in the spandrels.
