Description

ROUSHAM ROUSHAM PARK GARDENS SP4724 14/226 Lodge approx. 10m SSE of 27/08/57 Palladian Gateway (Formerly listed under Stable and gateway and two stone urns on pedestals adjoining) GV II* Lodge with cowhouse. c.1733-40, by William Kent. Limestone ashlar; gabled stone slate roof. 2 storeys; 3-bay. Central projecting bay has 2 niches set over storey band and semi-circular archway with imposts. Similar niches to outer bays. Crenelled parapet with graduated niches to stepped gable ends. To rear is semi-circular archway to cowhouse. Interior: sheltered seat faces Palladian Gateway (q.v.). Part of the landscape gardens laid out by William Kent c.1733-40. (Rousham Park is included in the H.B.M.C. Register of Parks and Gardens at Grade I; Buildings of England: Oxfordshire: p746)
