Description
This lodge, built around 1733-1740 by William Kent, is located approximately 10 meters south-southeast of the Palladian Gateway at Rousham Park Gardens. Constructed from limestone ashlar, it features a gabled stone slate roof and stands two stories tall with three bays. The central projecting bay includes two niches above a storey band and a semi-circular archway with imposts. The outer bays also have similar niches. The building is topped with a crenelled parapet that has graduated niches on the stepped gable ends. At the rear, there is a semi-circular archway leading to a cowhouse. Inside, a sheltered seat faces the Palladian Gateway. This lodge is part of the landscape gardens designed by William Kent during the same period. Rousham Park is recognized as a Grade I site in the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission Register of Parks and Gardens.
