Description

Appletree Farmhouse is a 17th century rubble stone cottage with a later 18th century rear wing. The building is two stories high with an attic and features stone tiled roofs. The main range is divided into two sections. The lower east section has two stories and two windows, with an east end wall stack and a former west end cross passage. It includes two-light casements above, a mix of two-light and three-light windows below, and a central door with cambered heads. Inside, there is a chamfered ground floor center beam, and the roof has two bays with a tie-beam and collar truss showing signs of later widening.

The main west section, built in the later 17th century, has two gabled dormers, a large east end wall stack, and a smaller west stack. It features a two-window range of three-light casements with cambered heads on the ground floor, although the central door has been removed. The rear stair gable has three- and two-light openings and consists of three bays with tie-beam and collar trusses. The rear wing is one story with an attic, has a modern tile roof that was formerly thatch, and includes a brick ridge stack and a two-window range of casements. There are half-dormers above with brick panels and tiled gables, along with one half-dormer at the rear, supported by sling brace trusses.
