Description
Wise's Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with a remodel and extension added to the rear in the mid 18th century. Originally timber-framed, it features Flemish bond brick with flared headers and a stone slate roof, along with brick stacks. The building is arranged in an L-plan and has two storeys. The original three-window range was extended to four in the 20th century. The front has a 20th-century door with a pedimented surround, and 20th-century casement windows. Cambered arches flank the door, while segmental arches are above and to the right of an inserted first-floor window. The eaves are dentilled, and there is a 20th-century dormer. The roof is gabled with a gable end stack on the right and a hipped roof with a lateral stack on the left. At the rear, there is a three-storey stair-turret with a hipped roof and a similar three-window range with a gabled roof and ridge stack to the rear left. Inside, there is a full set of late 16th century to early 17th century chamfered and stopped beams and joists on the right, with timber-framed walls and plain beams and joists on the left. The roof structure consists of common rafters.
