Description
Waterperry House garden bridge is an 18th-century structure located approximately 150 meters to the northeast of Waterperry House. It is built of limestone ashlar and coursed squared rubble, with a brick interior. The central section of the bridge features four Doric half-columns that support a triglyph entablature. The outer bays contain round-headed niches flanking a central round-headed entrance, which is adorned with a projecting tablet. The abutments are made of rubble, while the rear is constructed from rubble with squared quoins and a cornice that slightly projects from the central section. The central entrance has a wide round-arched surround with heavy chamfered rustication. Inside, the tunnel has a central octagonal chamber topped with a saucer vault. The front of the bridge now serves as the backdrop for a small amphitheatre, although the tunnel originally formed part of a sunken walk.
