Description
71 Bell Street is an early 19th-century building featuring an impressive Regency symmetrical facade. The exterior is finished in stucco with a rusticated ground floor. It has three storeys and three windows, with a slate roof and wide bracketed eaves. The central window on the ground floor is a canted bay that includes a balcony above, adorned with a delicate iron balustrade. The central window on the first floor is large and has a semi-circular head, with a tympanum featuring fluted plaster decoration. The windows are sashes with glazing bars. The entrance is located on the south side, framed by fluted engaged Tuscan columns and topped with a pediment, and features an arched radial fanlight. There is also a carriageway entrance on the north side, which has a moulded architrave. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 45, 45A, and 47, as well as Nos 53 to 81 (odd) and Nos 44 to 52 (even) opposite, along with No 2 New Street.
