Description

The rotunda, located approximately 125 metres north of Shirburn Castle, was built in 1741 by Westby Gill of the Office of Works for Thomas Parker, Earl of Macclesfield. Constructed from Portland stone, the rotunda is designed in the mid-Georgian style. It features Ionic columns that rise to a moulded and modillioned cornice. The roof has collapsed, and inspection of the interior is not possible. This description is based on photographs and printed sources. Shirburn Park and gardens are included in the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission Register of Gardens at Grade II.
