Description
Howe Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse located on Howe Hill in Watlington. The building is constructed from coursed knapped flint with brick dressings and features a gabled old tile roof, along with a brick stack on the left side and ridge stacks. It has an L-plan layout and stands two storeys tall with a two-window range. The front includes a 20th-century porch and door, with brick segmental arches above flat arches leading to three- and four-light leaded casements, as well as a 20th-century casement in the bottom right. A brick storey band runs across the facade, and there are leaded casements on the side walls.
At the rear right, there is a late 17th-century wing that is one storey and has an attic, built with similar materials and featuring a timber-framed gable wall and three-light leaded casements. A brick hood mould is present over the rear window. To the right, there is an early 18th-century outshut made of similar materials, which includes a two-light leaded casement. A rear stair-turret, also made of similar materials, has two-light leaded casements, one of which has diamond panes. There is a 19th-century one-storey extension to the left, constructed with similar materials.
Inside, the left room contains a roll-stopped beam with an ogee-stopped chamfered bressumer over an open fireplace that includes salt boxes, as well as a fine late 17th-century bread cupboard. The roof features a collar-truss design.
