Description
The Cottages is a manor house that was formerly used as cottages and is now a house. It likely dates from the late 17th century, with a cross-wing to the right that is dated 1796 at the rear. The building has undergone alterations and extensions in the 20th century. It is constructed of red brick with flared headers in Flemish bond, and there is roughcast, likely on brick, at the end of the cross-wing to the right. The roof is covered with old plain tiles, featuring a brick end stack to the left and ridge stacks.
The house has two storeys and an attic, with a seven-window range. To the left of centre, there is a 20th-century two-panel door with an architrave surround and a triangular pediment supported by brackets. To the left of the door, there is an 8-pane sash window with thick glazing bars. In the centre, there are two 2-light casement windows with brick relieving arches. To the right of centre and to the right, there are Gothick casements with 2-centred arched heads. A flat brick band runs between the ground and first floor, and on the first floor, there are 2-light leaded casements. The eaves are adorned with a painted moulded cornice. The right side features a cross-gable, and there are three gabled full dormers. The interior has seen 20th-century alterations. Historically, this site was known as Rush Court Manor House and is partly enclosed by a moat.
