Description

Park Town consists of a group of houses laid out in 1853 by Samuel Lipscombe Seckham, architect. The development is divided into four distinct groups.

The houses on the west side of the crescent, numbers 4 to 14, are detached villas of three storeys with Welsh slate roofs and sash windows, alternating between the north and south sides. Similarly, the houses numbered 1 to 9 on the north side alternate with those on the south.

The central crescent, comprising numbers 11 to 31 (alternating on the north) and 16 to 34 (alternating on the south), is a three-storeyed terrace of stuccoed houses arranged in two curved rows, with an ornamental shrubbery in the centre. The buildings feature basements and good iron railings. A moulded cornice and a small balustraded parapet top the facade. Sash windows are set within each floor, with those on the second floor of simpler design. Cills are supported on consoles. Ground-floor windows are 3-light sashes, and each has a recessed doorway leading up a flight of steps.

To the east of the crescent, numbers 33 to 45 alternate on the north and numbers 36 to 44 alternate on the south. These are similar in style to the villas on the west side.

The terrace at the east end, comprising houses 47 to 61 (alternating to the north of a central archway) and 50 to 64 (alternating to the south of the same), is constructed of yellow brick with a stuccoed, rusticated ground floor. The entire terrace is raised approximately 4 feet above the roadway. Each house has two sash windows to the first floor, and one sash window to the ground floor, along with a recessed doorway leading up a flight of steps. The central stuccoed archway is dated 1855.

The listed buildings of Park Town form a group, extending to include numbers 68 and 70 Banbury Road.
