Description
Grandpont House was built around 1785 for Elias Taunton. It is a three-storey building made of stuccoed brick, featuring a moulded cornice, a parapet, and bands at the first and second floors. The side stacks are also stuccoed. The house has an L-shaped plan with a north-west wing that projects at the back. The east elevation, which faces the river, includes two three-storey, three-sided bays with tall sash windows. Between these bays is a doorway topped with a late 18th-century semi-circular fanlight; above this doorway is a tall Venetian window, and above that is a three-light sash window. The north-west wing has a three-storey stuccoed front with a hipped roof made of Welsh slate and sash windows. The north sides of both the main block and the north-west wing are constructed of red brick, and the windows in the wing are blind. Notably, the house is built on a two-arched stone bridge, and there was once a mill located here.
