Description
Home Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It likely dates from the late 17th century and was enlarged and remodeled in the early 18th century, with further extensions added in the 20th century. The building is constructed of coursed marlstone rubble with squared quoins and wooden lintels, topped with a concrete plain-tile roof and brick stacks. Originally designed with a two-unit plan, it has been extended to three units with later additions. The farmhouse stands two storeys high, plus an attic, and features a two-window front on the earliest section, which includes a central doorway and 3-light 18th-century casements on both floors, with the ground floor windows being larger.
To the left, there is an added bay that has been further extended and is partly obscured by 20th-century extensions. The steep-pitched roof has stacks flanking the earliest section. On the right, a single-storey service bay with a Stonesfield-slate roof now serves as the main entrance. The right gable has a 2-light 18th-century casement and a blocked ventilation slit. The rear of the building, facing the road, features two old leaded 3-light casements at the first floor and a similar 2-light casement in the 18th-century bay. Two quoins next to the addition are inscribed with "IB/1736" and "RD".
Inside, there is a large inglenook fireplace with a stop-chamfered bressumer and a stop-chamfered spine beam. The date inscribed is likely that of the first addition. The farmhouse is included for its group value.
