Description
The building is a former farm office, now used as a workshop and store, dating from the mid to late 19th century. It is timber-framed and clad with weatherboards, featuring a brick stack and chimney shaft, and has a peg-tile roof.
This farm office is notably ornate and designed to be picturesque. It is a single-storey, one-room structure located in front and to the left of Lydd Farmhouse. The front gable end faces northwest and includes a porch on the right side. The rear gable end has a stack.
The exterior features 19th-century casement windows with glazing bars, arranged one above the other on the front gable end. The gable is decorated with cusped bargeboards, a timber finial, and a pendant. The porch has segmental arches on shaped imposts at the front and back, with the outer side open and filled with a wooden trellis. Above this level, all four sides have rectangular fixed pane windows with margin panes of coloured glass. There is a small modillion eaves cornice and deep eaves supported by shaped brackets at the corners. The roof is tall, spire-like, and topped with a weathervane at the apex. The doorway beneath the porch contains 19th-century part-glazed double doors.
This former office contributes significantly to the overall charm of the traditional farm buildings surrounding Lydd Farmhouse.
