Description

Barham House is a house built around 1850-1860, constructed of Flemish bond red brick with some stucco detailing. It features brick stacks and chimney shafts topped with 19th-century chimney pots, and has a slate roof. The house faces northeast and is set back from the road, designed with a double depth plan that includes a front and back room on either side of a central entrance hall and staircase, with projecting end stacks. The building has two storeys and attics in the roof space.

The exterior is symmetrical with a three-window front centered around the main entrance. The original two-panel doorway, which has an overlight without glazing bars, is sheltered by a bulky stucco porch that is accessed by a flight of stone steps. This porch is supported by large columns and features a flat roof with a moulded entablature. On either side of the entrance, there are large tripartite sash windows without glazing bars, each framed by stucco flat architraves and moulded entablatures on scroll consoles. A flat stucco band runs across the front at the first floor level, where the windows are sash windows with margin panes set beneath low brick segmental arches. The roof has a gable end with a single flat-roofed dormer at the front. The interior has not been inspected.
