Description
The stable block, now a house, dates from around 1690 and was converted in the mid and late 20th century. It features red and blue chequered brick and sandstone with a plain tiled roof. The building is two storeys high, set on a sandstone plinth, and has a stone plat band and quoins. A moulded wooden eaves cornice adorns the hipped roof, which has stacks at the rear left and rear right. The prominent central section has a steep pediment that contains a sundial. The nine-bay frontage includes eight two-light leaded casements and a central three-light window, with eight leaded cross windows on the ground floor, four of which are located in former stable doorways. The central glazed doors and sidelights replace the original coach doors and are set within a late 20th-century columned porch. The rear elevations are made of sandstone only, with details consistent with the front. The upper floor was converted sympathetically in 1947, as noted by C. Hussey in Country Life, volume CIV, 1948.
