Description
Hartlake Oasthouse, dating from the mid-19th century, has been converted into two houses around 1976. The building is constructed of brick and features peg-tile roofs.
The former stowage, which faces east away from the lane, is two storeys high and includes three circular hop kilns at its north end. The exterior has a regular five-window front with 20th-century casements that have glazing bars. It also features a first-floor doorway, which was originally a loading hatch, accessed by an external flight of wooden steps. All openings, including doorways, have low segmental arches above them. The roof is half-hipped at the south end, and the former hop kilns are adorned with cornices made of cogged brick, topped with tall conical roofs that still have their cowls.
The interior has not been inspected. This former oast is part of a notable group of listed buildings along Hartlake Road.
