Description

No. 73 High Street is a small timber-framed building dating back to 1732. The front, which faces High Street, features a 19th-century shop front, and above it is covered with weather-boarding. The side facing Botany has been rebuilt in brick on the ground floor, while the upper section is hung with painted tiles. Some traces of a bressummer are visible, with a slight bell-cast of tiles above it. The building has two storeys and an attic, with one window. It has a steeply pitched half-hipped tiled roof, which includes an attic window in the hipped gable. The first floor has sash windows with intact glazing bars. The shop window on the front is a pleasant 19th-century design, consisting of three detachable sections that retain glazing bars, although a continuous hood supported on brackets somewhat detracts from its overall appeal. On the side facing Botany, there are horizontally-sliding sash windows on the ground floor.
