Description
The Carrol headstone, dated 1751, is located approximately 2.5 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St Mary in Hadlow. This headstone is made of sandstone and stands upright at about 1.1 metres high. It features a shaped head that is carved in low relief, depicting a winged cherub head in front of trumpets and surrounded by scrolls. The inscription is in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, including some italics, and it commemorates the death of James Carrol in 1751.
