Description
The Balcombe headstone, located approximately 10 metres south of the nave of the Church of St Mary, is a Grade II listed structure dated 1796 in memory of Mary Balcombe. It is made of sandstone and features an upright slab that stands about 650mm high, with a shaped head. The head of the stone is decorated with calligraphic-style scrolls. The inscription begins in Gothic lettering, while the remainder is in Roman serif upper and lower case, commemorating the death of Mary Balcombe in 1796.
