Description
The Lomas headstone, located approximately 8 metres south of the tower of the Church of St Mary in Hadlow, is a late 18th-century memorial made of sandstone. This upright slab stands about 1 metre high and features a shaped head carved in low relief, depicting a winged cherub's head beneath the sun breaking through a cloud, flanked by scrolls. The inscription, bordered by twisted strips, begins with italic lettering followed by Roman serif upper and lower case lettering. It commemorates the death of Mary Lomas, although the date of her death is illegible, and also notes the death of her husband Richard in 1767.
