Description
The Terrace is a house from the early 19th century that was modernised around 1980. It is built of red brick in Flemish bond and features brick stacks with plastered chimney shafts, topped by a 20th-century concrete tile roof. The house is set back slightly from Maidstone Road to the northwest and has a double depth plan with a central entrance hall and main staircase, flanked by front and rear rooms. The left rooms are heated by an end stack, but it is unclear how the right rooms were heated. The ground floor front right room was originally a shop.
The exterior has a nearly symmetrical three-window front, although the right bay is wider due to its former use as a shop. The ground floor right window is a 20th-century tripartite sash with a central 20-pane sash, set in the blocking of the old shop window. The other windows are 19th-century 16-pane sashes under flat brick arches. There is a round-headed doorway slightly left of centre that contains a four-panel door beneath a low fanlight. The house has deep eaves with a plain boarded soffit and a low-pitched hipped roof at both ends. The interior has not been inspected.
