Description
The Porter chest tomb, located approximately 20 metres south-southwest of the tower of the Church of St Mary, is a Grade II listed structure dated 1811, commemorating John Porter. It is made of limestone ashlar and features fluted clasping pilasters, with one panel on each side framed with moulding. The tomb has a flat lid with moulded edges, a moulded base, and a two-step plinth. Three sides of the tomb are inscribed with Roman serif upper and lower case lettering. The north side notes the deaths of John Porter in 1811 and his wife Sophia in 1845, while the eastern and southern faces record the deaths of other family members.
