Description
East Northdown Farm Tythe Barn is a barn that primarily dates from the 18th century, although it incorporates some elements from a 17th century or earlier barn. This aisled timber barn is weatherboarded on a brick plinth at the front and right-hand side, while the left side is faced with flint and features red brick dressings. The rear includes some internal chalk blocks and stock brick with pilasters. The barn has a half-hipped tiled roof and an off-central hipped waggon entrance supported on poles. There is a loft door on the left side, and the structure consists of six bays. The western bay contains two oak arched upright parts from the 17th century or earlier, while the remaining timbers are softwood and were erected after 1700, as indicated by the presence of a ridge piece, through purlins, and curved braces to the wall plate.
