Description
Stray Cottages is a pair of houses that were originally built in the 16th century, with additions made in the 18th century. The cottages have a timber frame that is exposed, featuring plaster infill on the ground floor and weatherboard cladding on the first floor, topped with a plain tiled roof. The building follows a lobby entry plan and stands two storeys high on a plinth, with a continuous jettied first floor supported by carved consoles and a decorated bresummer. The roof is hipped with gablets and has a central right stack.
On the first floor, there are two wooden casement windows and a stair light. The ground floor features two wooden casements on the left, along with blocked mullioned side lights. A panelled plank and stud door is located to the centre right, framed by a moulded surround. To the left, there is an 18th-century painted brick wing that projects and has a return hipped roof, complete with a stack. Additionally, there is a jettied wing, which may date back to before the 16th century, located at the left return front.
