Description

Abbey Farmhouse is a late 17th-century and 19th-century farmhouse of an L-plan, likely originally a lobby entry design. The front elevation is faced with painted brick in a Flemish bond pattern, while the end elevations are tile-hung. The roof is covered in plain tiles and features a brick ridge stack positioned off-centre to the right. The fenestration is irregular, with four 19th-century casement windows. A canted plate-glass bay window with a tile roof is located at the right end of the ground floor. Evidence of a blocked door is visible beneath the stack. A half-glazed door is set within a moulded wood architrave, topped with a short gabled canopy, at the left end of the front. A boarded door with a three-light rectangular fanlight and canopy is present on the rear right wing. A rear left return wing, dating back to the 17th century, is timber-framed and tile-hung above a red brick plinth in English bond, with two storeys and a gabled form. The rear right return wing, built in the 19th century and using the same materials, creates a double-depth plan. Internally, the house has five timber-framed bays. The first floor room at the right end retains 17th-century panelling, and exposed timbers are visible throughout.
