Description

Oasthouse, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century, stands approximately 15 metres south-east of Little Cheveney Farmhouse. The structure comprises a rectangular stowage, built at right angles to the road, with two square kilns to the rear (east) and one to the south gable end. The stowage’s ground floor and kilns are constructed of red and grey brick in Flemish bond, while the first floor is weatherboarded. It has plain tile roofs. The stowage is two storeys high with a half-hipped roof, and the kilns have pyramidal roofs topped with cowls. Three pivoting six-pane windows are set into the first floor of the stowage, and a central gabled hoist hood features a horizontally sliding first-floor door. The front of the stowage's ground floor is open, supported by painted iron posts on padstones, forming five bays. The oasthouse was last used as a kiln in 1974. It is included in the listing for its contribution to the group value of the area.
