Description
The Church of St Mary is a Grade I listed building that was remodelled in 1357, although it contains evidence of Saxon and Norman work, as well as a 13th-century base. The windows were renewed in 1863, designed to replicate the original style with flowing tracery. The church is constructed from ragstone with flint bands and features a tiled roof topped with a shingled spirelet. A 19th-century south porch has been added. The layout includes a chancel and nave with a chapel and south aisle of nearly equal size, which are now used as the nave and chancel. There is no chancel arch, but a 14th-century rood screen made of moulded and carved oak is present. The church also has a stone arcade with three bays, a 14th-century south door, a pulpit, and a font. An arcaded recess can be found in the north wall, along with two tomb chests from the 15th and 17th centuries.
