Description
The Battery is a building dated 1760, located on the southeast side of The Bayle in Folkestone. It was originally constructed as the Officers Quarters of the Folkestone Battery. The building has two storeys and attics, with a stuccoed exterior and an old tiled roof featuring two dormers. The first floor has five sash windows with intact glazing bars, while the ground floor has modern windows and a porch. The left side elevation is made of stone with flint galleting and includes an outside chimneystack. A brass plate on the door notes that John Kinnisburgh, Master Gunner from 1800 to 1820, lived here. There is also an early 19th-century brick powder store connected to the house. The Battery is part of a group that includes Nos 26 to 40 (even), a statue in the grounds of The Battery, and The Globe Inn.
