Description

The bastions and curtain wall located about 10 metres south-east of Saltwood Castle date from the late 14th century, with the lower courses possibly being older. They are constructed from roughly coursed ragstone, featuring very large blocks in the lower courses. The south-west bastion is circular and was once connected by a north-west wall to the curtain wall of the inner bailey. The wall that runs north-east from the bastion, which forms the south wall of the bailey, was originally part of the continuous outer bailey curtain wall. The bastion includes cross loop-lights.
