Description

Ivy House is a house that likely dates from the 18th century. It has a timber frame, with the ground floor rendered and exposed framing featuring painted brick infilling on the first floor. There is a painted brick addition on the left side. The roof is covered with plain tiles and is hipped with a gablet on the right. The house consists of two timber-framed bays, with a later addition to the left, and is two storeys tall. The first floor has broadly-spaced studding and a concave 'arch' brace at the left end. A brick ridge stack is located at the right end of the left timber-framed bay.

The windows are irregularly arranged, featuring three two-light casements: one in the left addition, one to the left of the stack, and one to the right. There are also three small two-light casements on the ground floor, with the leftmost having a segmental head. A ribbed door is located in a gabled brick porch with a plain tile roof, positioned just to the right of the stack. At the rear, there is a lean-to, and to the right, another lean-to with a weatherboarded gable and a plain tile roof.

Inside, the house contains re-used timber from an earlier house dating back to the early 16th century or earlier. The left ground-floor room features an axial beam and unchamfered joists, while the right ground-floor room has an axial beam with remnants of end-of-hall moulding on the front side, a morticed soffit, and broad, contemporary joists on the rear side. The interior also includes gunstock-jowled posts and arch-braced tie-beams, as well as brick fireplaces with bressumers in each room.
