Description

Nos 31 and 33 on High Street are a pair of houses built in the 18th century. They are two storeys high and constructed from red brick, featuring a hipped tiled roof and an eaves cornice. The front is flanked by narrow pilasters and has five sash windows, although the glazing bars are missing. There is a modern shop front at the base. A tablet on the house notes that Sir Francis Pettit Smith, who lived from 1808 to 1874 and was the inventor of steam screw propellers, was born here. The side elevation has an overhang and is partly tile-hung.
