Description
This barn, located about 40 metres south-west of Bereforstal Farm House, dates from the 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of red and grey brick in English bond, with the upper part of each gable end covered in weatherboarding. The roof is made of plain tiles and features four timber-framed bays, built gable-end to the road. There is a mid-strey in the second bay from the right (west), and the roof is hipped. A gabled porch with weatherboarded sides and corrugated iron doors rises from the front aisle, while low double doors are located at the rear. To the left gable end, there is a later brick entrance with a segmental head, and ventilation slits are present in the aisles.
Inside, the barn has gunstock-jowled arcade posts that rest on wooden cills on brick plinths. It features arch-braced tie-beams and arcade plates, a clasped-purlin roof with nailed lapped collars, a ridge piece, and occasional yokes. There are curved braces between the aisle tie-beams and the backs of the arcade posts, and a dragon tie is present at each corner. Bereforstal Farm House is not listed.
