Description
Walnut Trees is a house built around 1830-1840, with alterations made in the late 19th century. It is constructed of stock brick in Flemish bond and features a hipped slate roof with four brick chimney stacks. The house has two storeys and three windows on the front elevation, which includes end windows that slightly project. The guttering is adorned with lion's head masks. Notably, the house has unusual cambered sash windows with Gothic glazing in the top halves and marginal glazing in the lower halves. The right side of the house has one window and three sashes with similar glazing. On the left side elevation, there is one sash window of the same design in a projection. The doorcase on the left side features an original five-panelled door with a fretted design on the upper two panels, topped by a 20th-century flat stone hood supported by brackets. The house was extended to the rear in the later 19th century. Inside, the front left room contains a wooden fireplace from around 1830-1840, featuring pilasters. This room is accessed through a lobby off the main door, which has hinged double doors that share the same decorative features as the windows. Some six-panelled doors remain throughout the house.
