Description
Field Cottage and Rosemarin Cottage are a pair of cottages built in the 1870s by George Devey for William Oxenden Hammond. They are constructed of dressed stone and red brick, featuring timber framed gables and a plain tiled roof. The cottages are single-storey, with a projecting gabled wing on the left and a smaller gable on the right, which includes a gabled oriel window in the centre right. There are five chimney stacks arranged from left to right. The left gable has a canted mullioned bay window, while the right side features mullioned windows. Rib and stud doors are located to the right and in the gabled porch on the left return. These cottages differ somewhat from most of Devey's designs for the St. Albans Court estate and are believed to have served as an alms house for the widows of estate workers.
