Description

The gate piers located to the north of No 14 on Harnet Street are notable structures from the late 17th century or early 18th century. They consist of two large square piers flanking the entrance to the gateway. The piers are partly constructed from large blocks of Portland stone, with some elements made of Caen and Kent Rag stone. The tops of the piers are flat and finished with York stone slabs. The piers likely rest on a medieval base, indicating a historical layering of architectural styles.
