Description
Hopebourne is an L-shaped building originally called Heppleburn, with its west or rear wing dating from the 17th century. This part has two storeys and is faced with rough plaster, topped by a tiled roof and featuring two casement windows. The early 19th century porch is solid, flanked by pilasters, and has a cornice and blocking course above, along with a doorcase that includes a rectangular fanlight and a nine-panel door. To the west of the porch, there is another early 19th century doorway, which is also flanked by pilasters and features a flinted frieze, a projecting cornice on brackets, a moulded surround, and a six-panelled door. The east wing, from the 18th century, is of much higher elevation, with three storeys made of red brick. It has a hipped tiled roof with a moulded wooden eaves cornice and brick stringcourses, along with five windows. The central window bay projects and is topped with a small pediment, and all the sashes retain their glazing bars.
