Description

Borstal Hill Windmill is a Grade II listed smock windmill built by Leonard Lawes in 1814. It features a roundhouse design and stands two storeys tall, constructed of tarred brick on the west side, with a platform and wooden railing above. The upper section is clad in tarred weatherboarding. The shafts of the sweeps are intact, although the shutters are missing, and it has a hooded cap. The windmill is currently used as a restaurant and is connected to a modern house that has been built on the south-west side. Some modern windows have been added to the mill.
