Description
The Falstaff Hotel, established in 1403, is a Grade II listed building located at 8 to 10 St Dunstan's Street. This timber-framed structure has been extensively restored and is refaced in brick and mathematical tiles, with the upper floors painted. It stands three storeys tall and features a renovated half-hipped tiled roof. The first floor has two 17th-century bay windows with round-headed centres, which now have modern metal casements. The ground floor includes two modern canted bays. The first and second floors overhang, although much of the tile timbering has been renewed, except for the brackets. An elaborate 18th-century wrought iron shop sign bracket is also present.
The side elevation consists of two storeys, with the ground floor faced in flint and the upper floor timber-framed and plastered. The old tiled roof has two hipped dormers and chimney stacks. To the right, there is a carriage entry featuring moulded spandrels, with fainted brick above the arch, a hipped tiled roof, coping, and modern glazing. The buildings from 5 to 16 St Dunstan's Street form a group with the hotel.
