Description

This is a terrace of six buildings, numbered 29 to 34, located in St George’s Place, Canterbury. The terrace dates from around 1840. It is constructed of stuccoed material with a three-story elevation and basements. The buildings are topped with a parapet featuring a moulded eaves cornice; No. 31 is slightly taller than its neighbors and has two additional bands of rosettes in the parapet. Most buildings have two sash windows on each floor, though the first floors of numbers 29, 30, 31, and 32 feature Italianate surrounds. No. 31 has three windows and one blank space on the second floor, along with a rusticated first floor. The architraves to No. 34 have been lost, while No. 33 has more elaborate architraves from the later 19th century and a three-light bay window on the ground floor. Shopfronts are present at numbers 29, 30, 33, and 34. A porch supported by two plain Tuscan columns is located at No. 31. Area railings are present at numbers 31, 32, and 33. No. 28 was demolished and subsequently removed from the heritage listing on September 28, 1990. Numbers 29 to 34 form a group, possessing group value.
